Glasses Fitting and Optics in Brovary
Glasses only help when the prescription matches your eyes and the frame fits well. At BINOCULAR an ophthalmologist checks your vision and eye health, and our own optical shop has frames and lenses, all under one roof at 8-B Viacheslava Chornovola Street, Krona Park. The fitting relies on objective measurements and on what feels comfortable to you, so that your new glasses are easy to get used to.
Why a glasses fitting starts with an eye check
Eyesight changes gradually, so many people keep an old prescription or buy ready-made glasses at a pharmacy. These have identical lenses and a standard distance between the lens centers, so they cannot allow for differences between your eyes or for astigmatism, which can mean tired eyes and headaches.
Blurred vision does not always mean you just need glasses, so see an ophthalmologist before ordering a new pair. The doctor checks your eye health, not only the prescription, and further tests such as a retinal OCT scan (from UAH 500) on our RTVue XR Avanti tomograph are done right here, with no trip to Kyiv.
How a glasses fitting works
Patients are seen by Yaroslava Dobrytsia, an ophthalmologist of the highest qualification category and Candidate of Medical Sciences, and Iryna Sydorenko, a pediatric ophthalmologist who also sees adults. Meet them on the Doctors page.
Your needs
First we ask what bothers you and what the glasses are for, such as reading, screens or driving. If you already wear glasses, bring them so the old and new prescriptions can be compared.
Objective measurements
An instrument measures your eye’s refraction and corneal curvature automatically (keratorefractometry), and visual acuity is checked on an eye chart.
Trying lenses
The result is fine-tuned with trial lenses. You compare the options and say which look clearest and feel most comfortable, so that your new glasses are easier to get used to.
Prescription and frame
You get a glasses prescription and can go straight to the optical shop for a frame and lenses.
If you have not had your eyes checked for a while, combine the fitting with a comprehensive eye exam. The doctor then assesses your eye health as well as your prescription, so your new glasses match your eyes.
Our own optical shop with frames and lenses
After the fitting there is no need to look for an optician elsewhere. Our optical shop sells frames and spectacle lenses, and an optical consultant will help you find a frame that fits comfortably.
If a frame pinches or slips, the shop can make a small adjustment to the fit. The center does not repair glasses.
The consultant will help you choose lenses that suit your prescription and what you need the glasses for. How long they take to make depends on the lenses, and you will be told when you order.
Glasses for children
Children rarely complain about their eyesight because they do not know how clearly they should see. Watch for a child who narrows their eyes to see, sits very close to screens or books, tilts their head, rubs their eyes often, or complains of tiredness and headaches after school.
Children are seen by our pediatric ophthalmologist, Iryna Sydorenko. A comprehensive exam for under-18s costs from UAH 600, and on Sundays from 10:00 to 17:00 children are seen without an appointment. If glasses are needed, the doctor writes the prescription and explains how and when your child should wear them. More on the Pediatric ophthalmologist page.
To train the eyes, the center also offers vision therapy. It is a non-surgical course of eye-muscle exercises on special devices and computer programs, supervised by a doctor. The course helps improve vision and ease eye strain, and it costs from UAH 3,000.
How much a glasses fitting costs
If you have not had your eyes checked for a while, start with a comprehensive eye exam. It costs from UAH 800 for adults and from UAH 600 for under-18s. Call us for the price of the fitting itself.
All prices are starting prices, and you will be told the exact amount for your visit when you book. The full list of services and prices is on the Services page.
